Wilcoxon Research underwater accelerometers are designed to be used virtually anywhere under continuous submersion. They are resistant to galvanic corrosion and built to withstand the high pressures of deep submergence. Titanium cases are useful when it is desired to have the accelerometer be highly resistant to galvanic corrosion or mounted on titanium structures. Stainless steel can be used for applications where the accelerometer will be mounted on cast iron or mild steel structures since they are near one another on the galvanic series list.

Hydrophones are, quite simply, underwater microphones for acoustic measurements. Wilcoxon Research hydrophones are built to withstand the rigors of continuous underwater exposure, in both sea water and fresh water environments. Each hydrophone uses piezoelectric crystals with a built-in electronic amplifier, to boost the low level signal of pressure waves underwater signals. The output is a dynamic AC signal superimposed upon the DC Bias Output Voltage (BOV). Typical applications are biological studies, ship studies, and monitoring underwater ordnance.

PiezoVelocity Transducers (PVT™) are solid state piezoelectric velocity measurement devices. Many vibration analysts prefer to examine vibration signals in terms of velocity (inches per second or ips) to amplify the signal of interest. PVT’s inherently decrease high frequency signals allowing better measurement of low frequency vibration. PVT sensors are essentially accelerometers with an internal integration circuit which will produce an output relative to velocity.

Test and measurement accelerometers are generally characterized by smaller size than industrial units and typically use a 10-32 co-axial connector to connect to measurement equipment. While they are sometimes used in industrial environments for machinery vibration collection, they are usually used in laboratories and similar environments. Modal and structural testing are the typical applications for test and measurement sensors.

Wilcoxon Research leak detection hydrophones are used to “listen” to the sounds of leaks in piping, in situ. A leak detection hydrophone is a piezoelectric sensor that is directly coupled to the fluid system to allow listening to the acoustic signal produced by a leak. The sensor has a pipe thread base for mounting directly to piping.

Meggit's Wilcoxon Research Vibration sensors for Helicopters. Helicopters must have proper blade balance to minimize unbalance vibration from the blades to provide the lift to the vehicle. The blades are very complex as they must pitch and tilt as well as providing flight attitude control. Vibration of the rotor assembly will vibrate the helicopter fuselage. special vibration sensors help to accomplish this task.
